HISTORY

Overview

1976 — In January, a small group of dedicated Christians began to meet for prayer and discussion about starting an evangelical church in the Farmington Valley. After five weeks of prayer, they felt the Lord leading them to start Valley Community Baptist Church. In March, the group began holding services at Avon Middle School. Later that year, they called their first pastor.

1980 — Valley called its first youth pastor. Four months later, the church broke ground for its new building.

1985 — Due to increasing attendance, Valley added a new Christian Education wing.

1996 — Valley concluded a building project that included a new sanctuary, fellowship hall and classrooms.

2000 — Valley started a daughter church, Valley Brook Community Church, in Granby, CT.

2003 — A new wing, the Discipling Center, was added.

2007 — Valley helped start its second daughter church, Northwest Hills Community Church, in Torrington, CT.

Currently — On average, 1700 people from the surrounding communities worship at Valley each weekend.

Valley is affiliated with the Baptist General Conference and Northeast Baptist Conference.
